Bastille Day in the Whitsundays

On Thursday July 14 Whitsunday residents will have a chance to embrace all things French in honour of Bastille Day. The French national day will be celebrated in style at Alain’s restaurant beside Cannonvale Beach.
Proprietor and Chef Alain Antonius said the restaurant had hosted an annual Bastille Day event since opening in 2003.
“They’re very successful. Bastille Day in France is a time you can do crazy things – drinking and dancing in the street – it’s a huge celebration,” he said.
Thursday’s celebrations at Alain’s will include a six-course fine dining experience and entertainment from cabaret and classics performers Le-Anne Cowell and Alan MacLean.
“It will be like a ‘Café Theatre’. The singers will put the happy ambience of a French Bastille night into the restaurant,” Alain said.
Dishes on the menu such as ‘Boeuf Bourgignon’ will showcase the best of French cuisine.
“These are true classical French dishes,” Alain said.
Long-time customer and ‘foodie’ Gloria Burley described the restaurant as “more French than France”.
“The best thing I make for dinner is reservations,” she said.
Bastille Day celebrations commence at 7pm. A repeat performance is already scheduled for Friday night for those who can’t make this date. For more information contact Alain Antonius on 4946 5464.
