Art Whitsunday Exhibition a success

The 24th annual Art Whitsunday exhibition was a resounding success with ten artworks sold and almost 500 attendees over the weekend-long event. Exhibition co-ordinator Jellena Demartini said she was thrilled with the attendance, sales and responses by visitors.
“It was a very positive activity for the group, artists and visitors,” Ms Demartini said.
Member for Whitsunday Jan Jarratt who attended the exhibition opening on Friday night said she wished to congratulate Art Whitsunday on another great event.
“We are so blessed to have so many truly talented artists in the Whitsundays,” Ms Jarratt said.
Local artist Wendy Eriksson won a commended prize for her entry to this year’s special section themed ‘black and white and shades of grey’, a result which she described as “amazing”.
“It was a real challenge. I just wanted to use colour, but I couldn’t,” she said.
Section winners included Rob Nicholls, Denise Vanderlugt, Wendy Eriksson, Suzi Hancock, Jellena Demartini, Susie Bowen, Dot Smith, Peter Jennings, Trish McNeill, Lysbeth Gould, Jennifer Beaumont, Diana Johnson, Adriaan Vanderlugt, Anna Russell-Smith and Sandra Hardy. Suzi Hancock was awarded the coveted 'people's choice' accolade for her charcoal drawing entitled "Shakima".
Exhibition co-ordinator Jellena Demartini is already looking towards the 2012 event, which promises to be “something spectacular” as a landmark 25th year.
