Whitsunday Brahmans celebrate season's end

A popular sport in the Whitsundays was celebrated over the weekend.
The Whitsunday Brahmans gathered on Friday night for their annual presentation night at the Reef Gateway to award the top performers of the year.
These awards included the top prize for the night, the 2011 Player of the Year and Paul Bowman Medal Winner
Brahmans' hooker Jarome Kutia, who was a standout for the team all year with his aggressive running game was awarded the top honour for the season - the Les Stagg Shield at the presentation night last Friday.
For the Reserve grade team, Best and Fairest went to front rower Alan Goundry who played many times throughout the year with injuries that would have seen many other players pull out. Best Forward went to Pat Kelly while Best Back went to rugby union convert Luke Griffiths. The Most Consistent award went to Jerome Jones who was rewarded during the year with his first A Grade appearance while Zac Bailey picked up the most Improved award. Best Team Man went to Reuben Porter.
In the A Grade team awards, Best Forward went to Brent Murray, Best Back to Nani Rahmat while Jarome Kutia picked up the award for Best and Fairest. In his first year back to rugby league, Todd Hounsell picked up the Most Consistent and Best Team man award while local boy Doug Davy picked up the Most Improved award.
The highest awards of the night were the annual club trophies. Josh Large picked up the first of these with the Jimmy Hill award, while Adam Wright won the Most Promising Player. Bill Lade in his first year back involved with the Brahmans picked up the Club man of the Year award for his constant help, especially with controlling the benches for both for the Reserve and A Grade Captain/Coaches. Paul Maxwell picked up the ‘Old Mate’ award for his tireless work both on and off the field.
Junior Rookie of the year was picked up by Tristian Bobongie who at only 17 years of age, played the entire year of reserve grade. Hopefully with the Brahmans fielding an under 18 team next year, he will really get to show his true worth.  The senior rookie of the year award was awarded to Nani Rahmat who in his first year of A Grade, showed he has plenty of skill to offer.
The last award of the night was for the Player of the Year and Paul Bowman Medal winner. The deserving recipient this year was the Brahmans' hooker Jarome Kutia, who was a standout for the team all year with his aggressive running game.
With the season now over, the boys will have a couple of months break before returning to the training paddock with the hunt for the Brahmans first ever A Grade Premiership in their sights.
